Lory Gonzalez-Tecun
Lory Gonzalez-Tecun is the Regional Program Director with SOMA Aquatics. Having learned to swim through SOMA herself, Lory has a personal connection to the organization and its mission.
Her journey began when she was 11 years old and joined the program as a participant. At the time, she was nervous about learning to swim, as swimming had never really been an option for her and she had little to no experience in the pool. Over time, she became more confident in the water and developed a love for swimming.
After learning to swim, Lory returned to SOMA as a volunteer and later became site supervisor. Throughout college, she continued helping during school breaks. Now after graduating from North Carolina State University, she is excited to return to SOMA as Regional Program director and give back to a program that has had such a meaningful impact on her life.
Outside of SOMA, Lory enjoys looking for sea glass at the beach, nature walks and hiking, doing crafts, and spending time with her family.
Miela Seligman
Miela Seligman is a junior at Archie Williams High School and has been working with SOMA Aquatics for about a year. Her favorite part of SOMA is sharing her love of swimming to anyone who is willing to learn.
At school, she is part of the varsity swim team and also plays field hockey. She loves spending time at the beach, especially surfing and swimming in the waves. Outside of school and swimming, she enjoys babysitting and working with kids.
Liliana Simon
Liliana Simon is a sophomore at Archie Williams High School and joined SOMA Aquatics as a volunteer this past summer. She has been swimming since she was 5 years old, when she started as a Pup with the Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions, and has been in the water ever since.
Liliana has been teaching with SOMA for about two months and especially enjoys helping kids feel more confident in the water and seeing their excitement as they improve. She has also played water polo for several years and loves the sense of freedom, relaxation, and community that swimming and water polo bring.
Finley Morris
Finley Morris is a senior at Tamalpais High School and has been working with SOMA Aquatics for about four months. He enjoys being in the water and helping create a fun and supportive environment for swimmers.
Outside of the pool, Finley enjoys playing football and kitesurfing
Lucy Yaroshenko
Lucy Yaroshenko is currently in 10th grade at the Lycée Français de San Francisco. She has a deep passion for competitive swimming and trains with Seals Aquatics. Swimming has always been an important part of her life, and she loves sharing that passion with others.
This past summer, Lucy had the incredible opportunity to join our team as a lifeguard and instructor. Volunteering with SOMA Aquatics allows her to contribute to her community in a way that truly resonates with her. She is thrilled to be working with kids throughout the year, helping them develop their swimming skills and fostering a love for the water.
Lucy believes that swimming is not just a sport, but a vital life skill that promotes confidence and connection. She looks forward to encouraging young swimmers to reach their potential and enjoy their time in the water!
